offset=&#8221;vc_col-lg-offset-1 vc_col-lg-7&#8243;][vc_column_text]\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">The Hatchery, Emory Center for Innovation, and Emory Libraries launched <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">Calliope\u2019s Cabinet: An Exploration of Curious Innovations Through the Ages <\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"none\">in 2022<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">.\u202f This new video series seeks to inspire Emory innovators and connect them to Emory University Libraries resources by showcasing unusual and thought-provoking archival material from deep in Emory&#8217;s collections.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cThere is a current tendency to equate innovation with technology and entrepreneurship.\u202fBut it\u2019s more historically accurate, and ultimately more helpful, to understand innovation as the purposeful development of novel and valuable solutions to human needs.\u202f This show takes its inspiration from the Renaissance \u2018Cabinet of Curiosities\u2019 fad, which showcased such human innovations\u2014and a great number of oddities that were thought-provoking but hard to classify through classical thought.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">&#8211; Shannon Clute, PhD, Director of The Hatchery, Emory Center for Innovation.<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]Each video focuses on a particular innovation, and features an Emory expert discussing when and where it was invented, what problem it was intended to solve, what made it innovative, how it was received, what eventually replaced it, and why it is still of conceptual value to innovators today.<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">As of October 2022, there are seven episodes focused on the following objects: John Wesley\u2019s personal journal, Victorian yellowbacks, artists\u2019 books, the first accurate book of human anatomy, a Civil War surgeon\u2019s field kit, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Martin Luther\u2019s 1522 translation of the New Testament into German from its original Greek, and the history of Graffiti and the Jack Stewart collections.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;3988&#8243;
